Saturday night the 6th of July ‘Sly Meets Callas’, feat. Lady Claron McFadden, was played in the Scots International Church. Nice detail: Claron has Schottish roots.
There was a review by Tim Sprangers in national newspaper ‘DE VOLKSKRANT’ about this concert (06-07-’13):
“…Artvark played in a church with a big latin cross in the back: ‘Holy Spirit Come Down’. The quartet seems to succeed in this task! As alto saxophonist Bart Wirtz was playing a cooking solo, the audience accompanied him with frantic hand claps, like it is supposed to happen with good gospel.
With an elated mood and standing ovations as result…The short first ‘blues-to-the-bone’ set of Artvark was impressive. Un-amplified they cleverly used the acoustics of the church to blend the sound of the four saxes.
The dynamic performance is very nice to watch and gives a pleasant sound sensation. The combination with Claron McFadden gave the audience already a beautiful CD and many memorable concerts.
This combination was a special request by the Scots Church: McFadden has Scottish blood…’
