Balkan music is one of the rare languages that can carry the exuberance of weddings and the melancholy of farewells in the same breath. Now, this rich musical heritage takes the stage with a fresh and contemporary interpretation.
Artvark Saxophone Quartet joins forces with the graceful and expressive voice of Turkish vocalist Dilek Türkan to bring Balkan folk songs to life through the creative textures of jazz. The “Balkan Songs Project” offers a unique musical journey where East meets West and tradition embraces innovation.
When the improvisational spirit of jazz meets the emotional depth of Balkan melodies, a borderless soundscape emerges. Enriched by the elegant tones of the Istanbul kemenche, kanun, and percussion, the project gains both rhythmic complexity and emotional nuance. With Dilek Türkan’s heartfelt interpretations, the timeless stories carried by Balkan songs reach modern ears with renewed meaning.
