Artvark presents: Sweelinck Artvark Andriessen
Artvark Saxophone Quartet proudly presents its new EP: a daring exploration of the boundaries between classical music and improvisation, between tradition and innovation. The EP, released 9th of May 2025, contains the work of Dutch composers, including a never before released piece of Louis Andriessen, Artvark’s own interpretation of a beautiful composition of the 16th century composer Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck, and a choir piece of Rudolf Escher performed on slide saxophones.
Artvark is known for its idiosyncratic approach and unmistakable sound: warm, powerful, melodic and with a lot of room for improvisation. With this EP the quartet proves once again that it does not shy away from genre boundaries.
Not only is this EP a tribute to the past, it’s also a contribution to the lively conversation between old and new music, between composer and improviser.
